March 2006
At
the end of January and beginning of February the school and governors set about
interviewing candidates who had applied for the teaching job about to become
free when we lose Charlie. Mrs Deborah Donaghay was
selected and she will be teaching Year 5/6 children when she joins us on a part
time basis with Mrs Smith. I’m sure that you would want to wish her every
success with Class 4. Staying with the staff, it’s
great news that Mrs Joanna Tripp has gained her HLTA status - congratulations,
Joanna.
Now, I’ve mentioned the
Village Web Site before at www.cheritonbishop.org.uk on several
occasions and you can look up Snippets at Village News at that site including
back issues to 2002. I wonder how many people have looked at the School’s own
website at www.cheriton-bishop-primary.devon.sch.uk.
It is a superb site which contains a lot of info on the school and it’s activities. It is well worth a visit. There are links
between both sites to make access easier.
As
usual, the old memory has let me down a bit. I am writing this as the school
enjoys half term and I failed to realise that the main staff would be away on
Friday at a conference. I failed to organise some photographs for this issue.
So, instead, I have put in some more views around the village. These will be:
a) The signpost at Four Cross Ways b) Looking over towards Crockernwell
from the Yeoford Road c) On the main road looking
towards Crocky Dip and d) Looking down Church Lane
from the Cross. I hope you enjoy them.
On
1st March Miss Moulding will present Classes 1 and 2 performing “The
Penguin Waddle” at 2.50pm in the playground – School Hall if wet! All are
welcome to see this one off spectacular.
Looking ahead again, the
whole school will be celebrating World Book Day on 2nd March. The
children dress up as their favourite book character. A parade of costumes will
be held at
A
day later, on 3rd March, the PTFA are holding a Quiz Night in the
village hall kicking off at
On then to sport and
there is a needle football match coming up on 7th March. Yes, we are
taking on, and hopefully beating, Tedburn St. Mary
School. I assume , and this is not confirmed, that it
will take place at the new soccer pitches beyond Tedburn.
There
is another major function from the PTFA but we have to wait until 6th
May for that. They are going to hold a Fashion Show in the village hall. I
quote “The clothes will be end of ranges and last seasons. They will be
available to buy at the end of the evening and the PTFA will get a commission
on sales”. It is open to everyone and it’s all in aid of raising funds for the
School.
You’ve
heard me rattle on about the clump of daffodils in
Another
moan about parking on the blind Froggy Mill turning. It has restarted.
Someone who has to be lacking in a bit of common sense has been parking
there. Not only that, I have seen a car with its doors open and a child
climbing in forcing a vehicle coming round the bend to swerve in avoidance.
Come on please. Don’t do it!! Enough said!
