April 2006
I
have a couple of items to catch up with from previous calendar dates. The sports
events were badly affected by the weather. The Small Schools Netball Tournament
on 3rd March and football against Tedburn
St Mary on 7th March were both cancelled because of unplayable
conditions. Cross country racing was similarly affected. With an indoor
swimming pool the Swimming Gala went ahead on 8th March as planned.
10 schools participated and Cherry B came a creditable
6th over all. Well done to all who took part. The daylight hours are
slowly extending and the opportunity for sport and training get better and
better. Although we are a small school, the spirit is such that we more than
hold our own against considerably larger establishments. Let’s hope that the
weather allows a good sporting year this year.
The PTFA sponsored Quiz
Evening went jolly well. Over 20 teams took part and everybody had a fun
evening. So much so that another quiz night is being planned in for later in
the year! It was a shame that I wasn’t around to stick an oar in – shame!
I have inserted the
photograph above so that it is displayed right across the page in the hopes
that you will be able to make out at least some of the costumes that appeared
for World Book Day. It was obvious that everybody had made a tremendous effort
to deck themselves out as their favourite character from a book. What an
excellent effort all round. The Class prize winners will appear throughout this
issue – but please don’t ask me who they represent because I am not altogether
well versed in children’s literature these days!
I
do know that the Class 1 winner is here on the right.
One
event that the weather didn’t put off was the Penguin Waddle by Keystage 1 pupils and the event was very well attended by
the parentage. Everyone that attended really enjoyed it. Also noted on the
calendar was the Taiko event over the half term break. Apart from minor
difficulties in finding the venue, it went off very well. Kodo,
the visitors from
Next
up in the photographic display is the winner of Class 2 who appears below. Well
done young man.

Since the last edition of Snippets the Wildlife Club have
had a visit and presentation by an authority on owls. That must have been a
hoot! (I wish I hadn’t written that now) The Music Assembly held on 10th
March was well attended by parents anxious to see how well their offspring
played their instruments. It all went down very well.
It
is time for the winner of Class 3 who now appears on the right. If you look
closely at some of these
costumes, there is quite
a bit of ingenuity involved.
Last
month I again raised my annual gripe about the daffodils in
On
the left now we have the final winner of the World Book Day fancy dress and he
represents Class 4. It takes a long time but it has just struck me that there
are no winners amongst the girls! Does that mean that we chaps are more
imaginative? Answers please on the back of a postage stamp! As you will see in
the calendar, there will be a Book Fayre (what’s
wrong with “Fair”?) at the beginning of the Summer Term when World
Book Day Vouchers can be
used.
