W69 August 2008
Although this edition of Snippets is, as you see
above, issue number 69, it is the web version of the 100th
issue in the Cheriton Bishop Parish Newsletter, so I feel that a
congratulatory pat on the back is merited. The first copy had the heading and titling
pictured below and appeared in the March 1999 Newsletter. Note how the name has
changed to
|
Snippets from the Classroom and BeyondWelcome to what, it is hoped, will be a regular feature of the Parish News Letter in future. In the last few months, our school has really been pulling its weight both locally and further afield. |
It
wasn’t until some months after it started that photographs were introduced. The
précis form in the Whiddon Parishes Newsletter is number
41. As you can see, the word spreads far and wide. Enough of
blowing the trumpet for snippets.
The
22nd July saw the end of the summer term with a Valedictory Service
for the leavers held in St. Mary’s Church. The Year 6 leavers are Josh Badham, Molly Barratt, Holly Chadney, Rhiannon Dodgeon,
Charlotte Hill, Fraser Maule, Josh Pearce, Kieren Pow,
Rachel Stocks, Harry Strong, Filia Stuart-Jervis,
Katie Toms, Angel Wade, Brittani Waylet
and Alexandra Wood. They are pictured on the right at the
service. I’m sure
everybody would join me in wishing them all the best for the future as they
take this major step up into secondary education. Four other children are
moving to other schools as their families relocate to other areas. Before the
leavers went, school numbers were up at a high of 87 pupils. By the time the
Autumn Term starts the number will be 73, taking into account both new
reception children and others joining in other classes. Year six will be
missed! At the service the children made a delightful presentation to Laura
Moulding who becomes Mrs.
On
the money raising side, the School Fête raised some £800 and the auction, which
was postponed to a later date because of the weather, raised a whopping £2300
or thereabouts, making a grand total well above £3000. Thanks are due to all
those from the PTFA and the staff who put so much work into organising the
events.
The
cake-making Competition that was judged by Michael Caines
made £52 for the Air Ambulance. The School Council wrote an accompanying letter
with the cheque to the Air Ambulance and received a super letter of thanks in
return.
The
School Sports Day with a Social Evening to follow, was
adjudged to be a great success with Fingle winning
the accolades as first overall. Runners up were Steps followed by Clifford.
Again, thanks are due to all those who made it happen. We do have a wonderful
band of staff and helpers as well as the drive that comes from the PTFA.
Both
Alexandra Wood and Charlotte Hill took part in the Devon Youth Games on 28th
June. The following press release was received in the school:- .
Mid Devon Youth Games Voluntary Group would like to say
thank you and Congratulations to
Charlotte Hill and Alexandra Wood for taking part in
The Mid
Well
done Charlotte and Alexandra.
On
the left here is the front page of the summer edition of the Cherry B – the
School’s own newspaper. I am lucky as I get my copy in full colour. The
children are really getting in to making a go of the paper. If you would like
to see the front page in colour, I intend to put it in the web edition. Once
again, I must thank our friends from the Exeter Express and Echo who agreed to
our using their magnificent photographs from the tag rugby competition.
The
after school club, The Busy Bees, has proved a great success this term and will
be continuing next term starting on 3rd September. The first session
of Taiko will commence on 5th September

I don’t know whether you
recall an evening event in 2006 held in the Village Hall. It was called “Know
Your Village” and various groups were encouraged to show off their activities.
There was a good article in The Crediton Country
Courier with 5 photographs. On the right is the group representing the Young
Farmers’ Club. The
