I
think that the photo below has a certain seasonal chill about it.
Last term ended with the usual rush, augmented by the
Christmas parties and dinners. The Carol Service held in St Mary’s church was a
delight to see. Well done to all who were instrumental in achieving the
standards experienced. A mulled wine and mince pie gathering at the school
afterwards brought a fitting end to the term. An large
and enthusiastic singing group were to be found stalking the lanes of CB some
days later in the shape of the PTFA’s carol singers.
There were sufficient numbers there to create some enjoyable experiences. Well
done to all concerned.
I
hope that all the children have returned to school in good heart and refreshed
and that the rest of the families are taking advantage of term time to
recuperate.
The
term started with the school “firing on all cylinders”. We’ve had three student
teachers helping us out. Katy Smith and Alice Williamson working
with the younger children and Hayley Bradnock working with Class 4. Katy and Alice will
be with us for 4 weeks whilst Hayley will be here for
the whole term. Welcome, ladies, I hope CB will give you a really positive
experience.
In
December’s Snippets, I made mention of the “Opera” project being undertaken by
Class 4. The whole idea is that Class 4 will be writing, yes, writing their own
opera with a little help from their friends. These friends will come from the
Royal Opera House and provide expert advice to our team. The children will be
performing their opera in the Cygnet Theatre in
Still
on a musical note, Assembly on 9th February will be a Musical
Assembly
3D
Dance is back with us with “A Chance to Dance” event taking place on the first
weekend in March. The children will be participating in company with other
schools and the Devon Youth Dance Company.
On
the charity front, 2nd February will be Unicef –
Day for Change Day when the children may be given the privilege of not
wearing their school uniform for a voluntary donation of one pound. Not a bad
rate of exchange and it’s all for a very worthy cause.
Time for a rant. I was asked to put in a note about PARKING for
the December issue. I
failed. So here it is in February’s issue. The whole issue
came to a point locally when the Crediton service bus
could not get through. There have also been times when busses for the school
have been unable to get close to the school. All because of poor, and
ultimately, selfish parking at the school gate and surrounds. For parents, the
Walking Bus gives a splendid, healthy option for the children without the
hassle of parking. If that is impossible, the school car park is available.
Yes, I know that many do avail themselves of these facilities but there are
also a lot that don’t. What worries me further as a near neighbour of the school, is the access for emergency vehicles. Come on, let’s
get with it and sort it out!!!! Whilst on the subject of the dreaded road
vehicle, there will soon be a 20mph speed limit imposed on
Rant
