The
first day back at school for the summer term is also the deadline for May’s
edition of Snippets. As it happens, I
went up to the school during the last week of March to dig out information from
the last two weeks of March – the deadline was very early last month! The main
problem that arises is one of “Where on earth did I put the stuff for next
month’s issue?” Your correspondent is in imminent danger of losing his
“Marbles”.
The first object that I
should mention is featured here on the left. It is the second issue of the termly news-paper The CherryB.
Although
I can only depict the top half of the front page, it certainly appears to be an
excellent publication. It has interviews with staff and other pupils, This edition has games as well. Altogether, the team
who produced it should be congratulated on their super effort.
The other pictures for
this edition of Snippets arise out of
the visit of staff from The Owl Sanctuary who brought with them three owls, the
barn owl, the tawny owl and the little owl. Our pictures are of the Barn Owl (I
believe) and the looks on the children’s faces are a delight to behold. The third
photo shows some of the pupils dissecting owl pellets to find out what the owls
had been eating.
On then to more reports from last term. On the football front,
I’m afraid we didn’t do too well against Tedburn St.
Mary. The score was a bit too embarrassing to mention. However, the netball
team made up for it and we trounced them in that sport. Don’t forget that the
Spotlight Certificates
for last term were awarded at a special Assembly on 24th March and
the school won a
One
other snippet of news: we will be joined by Laura Bellerby
from the start of this term until 26th May. Let’s make sure that
Laura, a student teacher, gets the most out of her time with us and finds out
how a good small school operates. Welcome, Laura.
Before going on to the
calendar, there are 2 more items. Firstly, congratulations are due to Michael Brailey. Michael earned a Merit (3rd) for his
efforts on the violin at the Exeter Festival on 21st March. A big
“Well Done” for achieving that. Secondly, I showed my
ignorance of the characters in children’s books when I couldn’t tell you who
the class winners represented. I can now ! In Class 1
Stuart Cassels disguised himself as Harry Potter;
Class 2 Thomas Barclay was Peter from Narnia; Class3
saw Fraser Maule as Tim Diamond of Falcon’s Malteser; finally, in Class 4, Mr Smooth himself, Lester Kiddle was James Bond – 007. Again, well
done to all the winners.

hope they don’t mind me mentioning it, I met some parents of prospective pupils
for the school today. They have moved to
