I make no apologies for including the front page
of “The Cherry B” as the first picture in this months
Snippets. It was sent to me over the internet and, for the first time that I’ve
seen it, it is in full colour. Of course, this is no use when you reproduce it
in black and white, but to see the quality of the publication leaves me a bit
daunted. How can I match it? Whatever happens, it is a credit to those pupils
on the editorial team, Tay O’Brien, Holly Chadney,
Josh Badham, Rafe Jackson,
Ella Chadney, Elsa Amiss, James Bowden and Georgina
Tully. Well done to you all. . Nobody in the school seems to escape the
reporters/editors and some searching questions are asked. Even the taxi drivers
that regularly bring pupils to the school didn’t escape!!
Well, the school is due back tomorrow – 24th
April – having broken up on 5th April. So most of the month since
the last edition has been spent with the school shut and this edition will look
at the future events for the summer term. I can report, however, that the
Easter service in St. Mary’s church went well ,
followed by dispersal at the end of the term .
Before I start on the forthcoming term, I want
to report on an item that was mentioned in last month’s Snippets, The Walking
Bus. Councillors Nick Way and Dave Pullen, together with our Road Safety
Officer, Marion Deacock, presented new jackets for
the parent helpers and new tabards for the children at a small ceremony outside
the Good Knight Inn. We have been operating the Walking Bus for six years and
must be one of the longest operational “busses” in
Right, it’s the start of a new term. I’ve just
mentioned getting the children to school. Now it’s time to mention the dreaded
subject of parking. Parking outside the school at the start of the school day
and at the end is horrendous and just asking for an accident to happen. Access
for emergency vehicles is impossible at times. Those that park on the corner of
the lane to Froggy Mill are just asking to have their
cars hit or their children run down by vehicles coming from the Vennbridge direction. If you have to use your car to get to
the school, use the school car park to keep your vehicle off the road.
Generally, parents do try and keep to a one way anti-clockwise system. This is
good BUT, don’t forget residents who may have to go counter to the flow. It is
their road also! Rant over!

Another quickie from last month: the picture
(left) appeared showing some of the costumes on World
Book Day. I didn’t mention the characters because, although I recognised Darth
Vader at the rear, I didn’t know who the character in the foreground is! I do
now. It’s Wally of Where’s Wally fame. He won a prize as winner in the Year One
contest. Well done to the Mums and Dads who dreampt
up and, I’m sure, made the costumes. The Cherry B has a list of all the
winners.
On, then, to this term. Mrs Sam Cann has offered to give cycling proficiency and safety
training during the summer. Thanks Sam, for all your help in this field. We are
lucky to have this kind of support from parents. In addition, the Wildlife Club
will be starting on Mondays and the Animation Club will be held on Thursdays.
On the sports side, Tag Rugby comes to the fore this term for classes 2,3 and 4. Both boys and girls regularly participate in this
event.
Good luck to class 4 with their opera rehearsal
at the Cygnet Theatre on 27th of this month. Classes 1 and 2 have visits
planned to Teignmouth and Foodeaze
at St George’s Hall. The dates have yet to be finalised.
