So the new term began on 5th September and the cycle of the year starts again. This year, the September intake saw jut 6 new pupils, Matthew Barclay, Charlotte Brazier, Dora Amiss, Adam Barclay, Holly Pearce and Azara Colwick. This may appear to be a small intake when 10 or so left at the end of last term, but our January new blood will more than make up for the short term loss of numbers. Our new youngsters are pictured below and we wish them all the best of good fortune in their time at Cherry Bee School. Work hard and you get the rewards you deserve

.

For the new term a new School Council has been chosen with Alexandra Wood, Holly Chadney and Josh Pearce representing Year 6, Elsa Amiss, and Katie Grist for Year 5, James Bowden and Ellen Pearce for Year 4 and Ethan Pearce and Bethany Waylet representing Year 3. Under the guidance of Mrs. Tracey Wood the Council discusses issues that may need addressing as well as working on events for raising money and the like. Altogether it is quite a responsible job being on the Council. I hope they all benefit from the extra responsibility.

Getting back to more mundane things, the new building work is now scheduled to start on 1st October and, hopefully, the new facility will be available after half term.

The new date for the Sports Day was 14th September. This was originally scheduled for last term but the weather put paid to any such event. There were three houses in competition, Fingle, Clifford and Steps. At the end of the activities, Steps were the overall winners. Well done to them and to all who participated. Also taking part was the playgroup – they managed a “Sweet and Spoon Race”. Fingle showed a penchant for dressing up and won the “Dressing Up Race”. Good fun was had by all.

This term the afternoon activities include Golf, Cross Country, Netball and Tag Rugby on the sporting side with Taiko, Dance/Drama and Cooking as other interests. It’s good to see cooking coming back into fashion. Next thing is to bring back Domestic Science !!! Taiko had a delayed start this term due to the indisposition of Mrs. Watkins. I am glad to report that she is now back up to speed and raring to go with the Japanese drums. Whilst mentioning the staff, Miss Emily Soper, the Class ¾ teacher will be leaving us at the end of term. Obviously interviews of prospective applicants have to take place before an appointment can be made but it is hoped that an announcement can be made before half term.

As usual, the school will be celebrating Harvest Festival at the Methodist Church at Cheriton Cross. Produce etc. collected will be distributed to Age Concern in Crediton. This, of course, will have taken place before the issue of this edition of the Parish Magazine.

The school actively supports the Jeans for Genes Charity and this year is no exception. Jeans for Genes Day will be 5th October when the wearing of jeans in the school is permitted for the princely sum of £1. This is a very worthwhile charity event supporting as it does, several organisations who are working to provide solutions to many childhood afflictions.

On the sporting front again, there will be a Netball and Football tournament on 17th October. I’m not yet sure where this will be held.

On, then, to the diary:-

5th October – Jeans for Genes Day

17th October – Netball/Footbball tournament

22nd-26th October – Half Term

14th November – Literacy Evening – Reading/Spelling/Phonics
