Headteacher: Mrs Sue Leyman
The original school building, built in 1870, is in Church Lane
opposite the parish Church.
There are also three modern classrooms on the opposite side of Church
Lane and above the Spalding Hall where most of the teaching takes place. The
school playing field, playground and a small swimming pool are close by. The school caters
for children from the age of 5 to 11 years and 72 children are registered. (as at
December 2001). At age 11 at the end of their primary education, children normally
transfer to the Queen Elizabeth Community College at Crediton.
The Headteacher, Mrs Sue Leyman, is supported by a staff of three
teachers:
Mrs L .Brimacombe, Mr S. Mackenzie and Mrs C. Smith. Additional
support is
provided by Classroom Assistant Mrs J .Tripp. Mrs L. McCracken handles
school
Administration.
The Chairman of the School Governors is Mrs Jane Hancock.
THE AIMS OF THE SCHOOL
To provide a happy and secure environment in which children are
encouraged and

By the time the children leave Cheriton Bishop School at eleven we
hope they will be

enjoyment.
2. Communicate clearly and confidently with adults, and other children.
3. Write legibly and accurately for a variety of personal, practical and
imaginative
purposes.
4. Apply mathematical skills and concepts in a variety of everyday
settings.
5. Know how to obtain information from a variety of sources and record
findings
appropriately.
6. Show an understanding of science and technology from first hand
experience.
7. Work with others co-operatively to investigate, explore, interpret and
solve problems.
8. Practice a range of skills and strategies in the creative arts.
9. Be able to talk responsibly about attitudes and values.
10. Show an awareness of historical and geographical perspectives in
relation to the
present age and the local environment.
11. Show an awareness of religious and cultural traditions.
12. Display good manners and treat others with respect.
